What happens when technology meets desire? Can you manufacture the perfect partner? Enter Myles – Soulmate in a Box, a slick and incisive one-person musical about love and AI written, composed and performed by the incandescent Inch Chua and presented by the Singapore Repertory Theatre.

It's a tale that reminds us of the sheer power of technology and how it can take on a sinister edge when pushed to its limits. Thomas Agerholm directs with deftness, bringing together a superb creative team with a sleek set, evocative lighting and truly stunning multimedia. Chua keeps us rapt throughout the 90-minute production, blending sonic brilliance with emotional depth and showcasing an impressive range of songs that propel the narrative. She's promised to release the soundtrack!

I remember writing several years ago that I’d love to see an authentic science fiction story set in Singapore but I don’t think we’ve gotten there yet. Myles – Soulmate in a Box confidently proves me wrong. In an age where AI has penetrated every aspect of our lives, this is a musical that's both timely and timeless, excavating themes that will resonate deeply with audiences. Glad to see a fully-realized version after catching a work-in-progress two years ago.

The Crystalwords score: 4/5
